Cooling Tower Fills, also called cooling tower filler, cooling tower filling, cooling tower fill packing, cooling tower fill media, cooling tower infill,cooling tower honeycomb fills, are media located in the bottom or middle of the industrial cooling tower.

Cooling tower fill is made of PVC or PP plain plate by specialized machine. Some of cooling tower fills are made of high-temp resistant CPVC. They are hot pressed in the certain mould, and then be produced according to different design to be used in different cooling towers, especially in the industrial cooling tower.

The cooling tower filler is an important part of the cooling tower. Its efficiency depends on the degree of full contact between the cooling water and the air in the filler. After the filler is installed, the gap is uniform, the upper surface is flat, there is no collapse and lamination, no perforation and cracking, and the ventilation resistance should be small. The filler is temperature resistant to 50ºC~68ºC, aging resistant, excellent in performance, UV resistant, and has a long service life.
The role of the cooling tower filler in the cooling tower is to increase the heat dissipation, extend the cooling water residence time, increase the heat exchange area, increase the heat exchange amount, and evenly distribute the water. It is not to fill something that needs to be cooled into the tower. A cooling tower is a device that cools a hot fluid (including water) to a reasonable temperature. The operating principle for cooling tower fill is to increase the contacting area for the air flow and water flow with the longest time as possible. Cooling tower fills allow the water to form thin flowing sheets in order to expose as much water surface area as possible to the interacting flow.

Types of Fills in Cooling Tower

-Splash Fill:
Splash fill consists of layers of horizontal bars or slats. When the warm water hits the surface of these bars, it spreads, breaks, and forms small droplets. As more droplets are formed, the contact between air and water flow is increased, which as a result accelerates the rate of cooling and evaporation. Splash fill media were traditionally made from wood, but modern cooling tower fill material is made from PVC. PVC is more efficient as it facilitates better heat transfer. A big advantage of splash fill is that it's very forgiving of insufficient initial water distribution since the splashing activity redistributes the water at each level of splash bars. Because of this, a cooling tower with splash fill effectively handles water-containing debris. Maintenance is also easier because its open nature offers easy visual inspection of the water flow pattern and the condition of the fill.

-Film Fill:
Film fill provides sheets of material that are shaped into a corrugated pattern for the water to travel across. It can be combined and stacked into blocks, to create various thicknesses and heights to fit individual cooling towers. Despite the advantage of splash fill in water distribution, film fill is by far the more popular type of fill, mainly due to its ability to expose greater water surface within a given packed volume.
